Manual taskbar reordering
Manual taskbar reordering
Maybe I missed it elsewhere in the forums, but am I the only olny one who'd appreciate the possibility to manually reorder items in the taskbar? Like tabs in Firefox, for instance... Woul'd it be technically possible? (Well, I know I can reorder them by series of dragging windows across different desktops, but that's not actually effective job, is it?) That feature would considerably help me in tiding up my workspace.
unfortunately:
I'm using taskbar shuffle.
Problem with Dexpot is, that it is re-ordering the shuffled tasks in the taskbar each time you leave and come back to the specific desktop where you shuffled them.
Ticking 'Disable taskbar reordering' in the Settings 'EXTRAS' => 'Debugging' does not help, the re-ordering still occurs.
This is disappointing, since Dexpot is otherwise a pretty good application! Could this be fixed - or a working taskbar-shuffle mechanism build into dexpot?

Hi,
I'm also using both Dexpot and Taskbar Shuffle, and I have noticed that this problem has now been fixed in the recently announced Dexpot v1.4.1.

Re: New feature request: Manual taskbar reordering
Turn off the "Group similar taskbar buttons" feature.
Re: New feature request: Manual taskbar reordering
I have it turned off. Same thing, still reorders (and with no particular pattern).
Anyone else still have the problem? Just looking if something else might affect this.

Re: New feature request: Manual taskbar reordering
Looks like I am resurrecting an old string.
I just started using Dexpot V1.5.0 and am having the same problem
It is not bad enough that I will stop using Dexpot but it is annoying.
I do have Taskbar shuffle installed and am now using it more than ever.
I do have "Group similar taskbar" unchecked and "Disable taskbar reordering" on.
Thanks in advance,
Sig Rosenthal

Re: Manual taskbar reordering
I am using V1.5.4 and it still has the same problem. Does not play nicely with Taskbar Shuffle V2.5. Any advice?

Re: Manual taskbar reordering
,
taskbar shuffle doesn't support Windows 7, whereas Dexpot does static taskbar reordering since version 1.5.1.
You may, of course, turn on the option 'Don't keep taskbar button order' in 'Settings/Plugins and Extras' and then try a different taskbar reordering app.
Your OS is Windows 7, isn't it?

Re: Manual taskbar reordering
still happens in xp sp3, dexpot 1.5.5, taskbar shuffle 2.5
there is a pattern though. if you switch desks back and forth the positions of buttons repeat.
i used 4 buttons on the first, 13 on the second (with one button copied on both, so 3 & 12 unique respectively and 1 on both)

Re: Manual taskbar reordering
dexpot 1.5.5
When switching desktops it keeps reordering taskbar buttons. Very annoying if you have many open windows. I do have "Group similar taskbar" unchecked and couldn't find any option to disable reordering in dexpot. Please help.

to add to my post: it also happens without taskbar shuffle.
Re: Manual taskbar reordering
I hope this bug will be resolved soon, because it's the only thing that (really) upset me in Dexpot...
Re: Manual taskbar reordering
Which versions of Windows and Dexpot do you use and which bug exactly are you referring to?
Re: Manual taskbar reordering
I'm having the same issue with windows 7 64bit and dexpot 1.5.10 built 1579
the issue is:
on desktop one I have outlook, IE and Firefox on that order on the taskbar.
then if I re-order. outlook, Firefox and IE.
use all 3 apps.
switch to desktop 2 where I only have outlook.
use outlook
then I switch back to desktop one, and the order changed to:
outlook, IE and Firefox

Re: Manual taskbar reordering
This is something that's really important for me, as well. I'm just getting into virtual desktop software now and I'm trying to find one I like. Other than this taskbar ordering, I'm rather satisfied with Dexpot.
At any rate, this may be of help. You may know of a program called 7 Taskbar Tweaker, by RaMMicHaeL (http://rammichael.com/7-taskbar-tweaker), which allows you to completely ungroup your taskbar items and sort them however you want. VirtuaWin has gotten some help from RaMMicHaeL, as seen in this ticket. It's not in their official release yet, but I built from source and I can confirm that the taskbar order is maintained properly when switching.
RaMMicHaeL seems to be interested in making his program compatible with other software (He even mentions Dexpot's SevenDex in the site's news), so maybe you could get assistance from him. He is, after all, the go-to guy for the Win7 taskbar.
