The ordering works per process name, but not per window. So if I have 2 Chrome windows open it will stick them together after a switch.

I checked the debugging options; no the item was not checked.

In this case, it seems like my only option is to hope that I won't get unlucky and the order of icons will not break on each desktop switch.

This feature already exists. It's enabled by default, but it may not always work correctly in all situations. There's a trade-off between accuracy and speed.

Under "Settings > Plugins and Extras > Debugging > Advanced", make sure that "Don't keep taskbar button order" is not checked.

Each time I change desktops, the order of the taskbar icons are changed. Because I switch desktops very often, finding icons at different positions each time is quite confusing.

I looked through the options but I was not able to find an option that would allow persistent taskbar icons. I'd be glad if you could assist me in enabling this feature, and if it does not exist, if you consider adding it.
