Mousewheel switches only when Dexpot window focused

In the plugin Mouse events, it would be great if the option to switch desktops using the mouse wheel (Settings > Plugins and Extras > Mouse Events > Configure > Mouse Wheel) worked only when a dexpot window (e.g. preview, manager) was focused. this would alleviate the need to use the keyboard to switch. i've been using this kludge to accomplish something similar viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1922 but frankly it doesn't work great (something to do with mouse location and window focus after a desktop switch).
