Play around with the first 4 numerical values until you find the desired result. Personally, I have 0,0,2,2. First one is the horizontal size of a desktop, the last one specifies how many rows (e.g. 2 for 4 desktops (2 rows, 2 columns) or for 6 desktops (2 rows, 3 columns)).

I know it is not exactly what you wanted but maybe the "Taskbar Pager" is enough for you (see attached image): You can modify it to display desktops in grid mode and the current desktop is framed. For a little amount of desktops it is easy to register what desktop you're on, for a larger a...
