Sowing the Desktop name

I wish there were a key combo to just show the desktop name so I wouldn't have to have it on all the time but if I needed to know which desk I was on I could do so with a key-press.

The name for the current desktop does not show unless it is just being changed to or is constantly "on."

I know it is not exactly what you wanted but maybe the "Taskbar Pager" is enough for you (see attached image): You can modify it to display desktops in grid mode and the current desktop is framed. For a little amount of desktops it is easy to register what desktop you're on, for a larger amount of desktops this is not a solution.

Settings -> Plugins and Extras -> Taskbar Pager: enable, cofigure (e.g. Layout 0,0,2,2 is a good choice for 4 desktops)

That could work, but how do I get it to size like yours?

Play around with the first 4 numerical values until you find the desired result. Personally, I have 0,0,2,2. First one is the horizontal size of a desktop, the last one specifies how many rows (e.g. 2 for 4 desktops (2 rows, 2 columns) or for 6 desktops (2 rows, 3 columns)).
