Screen recorder for Win7 x64?

Postby selden » 05.10.2010 05:35:54

Can anyone suggest a free screen recorder which works under Windows 7 x64 with Dexpot?

I tried Camstudio, but the top half of its recording had a black background instead of the actual background.

Thanks for whatever anyone can suggest.

I tried a few screen recorders that I found. The one which works best for me is HyperCam 2. I also tried BSR Screen Recorder and a "Technet Spotlight screenrecorder". BSR seemed to go into a cpu-bound-loop when it was supposed to write out the file, so I had to kill it. It didn't seem to actually produce any output file, at least not in the directory where it claimed it was writing it. The Technet recorder generates only a low resolution wmv format and can't seem to keep up when using Dexcube to switch between desktops.

Hypercam2 had no problems keeping up when doing a full-screen recording, has several video encoder options, and includes some other useful features -- including audio recording and a "flasher" which is recorded on-screen when you do a mouse click.

An issue with HyperCam 2 is that it installs a browser searchbar Addon which I promptly uninstalled. I didn't see any way to prevent the searchbar installation, although there were several other checkboxes (which I disabled) on that page of the installer. I might have overlooked it, though. I use Firefox with the NoScript Addon, so the Web page that it automatically opened didn't do anything -- it seemed to have links to other pages on it.

JING

There is a great and easy to use free version, and I have had no issues using it to capture Dexpot and Rainmeter (among other things) from my desktop

http://www.techsmith.com/jing/

Give it a try

Come across the topic.

You can try the web-based screen recorder like ScreenToaster. Platform-crossed and no need to install. It records desktop with your browser, totally free.

Personally I use DemoCreator for its built-in video editing features, shareware.

I'd strongly recommend BSR Screen Recorder. I've been using it for 3 years now. You can download it for free, but until you register, the program records with watermarks.

My Screen Recorder is an excellent screen recording software tool for tutorials. Records your screen and audio from the speakers or your voice from the microphone - or both simultaneously. It's easy to use, and the recordings look great.

Hey! Did you solve the problem? Which screen recorder are you using now? OBS is a free one. You can try it. However, if it is a bit complex for you to operate, you can try to use Joyoshare Screen Recorder. I am using it to record an online tutorial. :)
