Window sizes changing on their own

Postby mzeee » 04.04.2017 18:11:48

I notice this with Chrome windows, but it might be occurring with others as well.

I have 6 Dexpot desktops, and Chrome running windows in several. When I switch between them, I often notice that the Chrome windows have resized themselves a little. I'm constantly having to fix them. As far as I can tell, they are usually shrinking.

My guess is that this is occurring due to some bug in how Dexpot reports screen resolution, or how it is interpreted, but I can't be certain Dexpot is the cause. Is anyone else seeing this issue? The problem started sometime in the last few months, so either a Chrome or Windows update. Since I've never observed one resize on its own, I assume this must be happening when switching between desktops using Dexpot.

Any ideas? Thanks.

by how many pixels? Do you have resolution customization enabled in Dexpot?

Perhaps 20 to 50 pixels horizontally, and I suspect 0, or at least much less vertically.

I do not have resolution customization enabled in Dexpot.

Sebastian,

Any ideas on this issue? Just checking in case you missed my replies, as it has been a few weeks. Thanks.

please provide a *.log file. Might be related to the Chrome windows architecture.

I enabled logging. Should I just use Dexpot for a while and observe window sizes changing, then send it? Where should I send it?

Also, if you can give me any constraints on what you are looking for in the log file, I would appreciate it. I'd prefer not to send an enormous file that might contain some private information. Is there something I can search for to include, or exclude?

I looked at the log after the windows started shrinking today. I don't know the precise time they started shrinking, but I found this section in the log rather odd:

Code: Select all

14:13:46> Aktualisiere Desktop.
14:21:47> Screen 1: 1680x1050 at (0,0) work area 1680x1050 at (0,0) primary
14:21:47> DPI Scaling: 125%
14:30:36> Session state change: 8
14:30:36> Screen 1: 1680x1050 at (0,0) work area 1680x1016 at (0,0) primary
14:30:36> DPI Scaling: 125%
14:30:37> Automatische Fensterwiederherstellung nach Standby.

Why is the work area changing size? I don't think there is any reason it should.

Did you try turning off your chrome extensions or other windows startups? That might be a culprit.

Just found out that ublock origin has screwing around with my links that was bothering me for weeks.

I'm fairly sure that extensions generally don't have permissions to change window sizes for windows they don't generate. In any case, it's not viable for me to disable my extensions for extended periods of time to test this, since I depend on quite a few.

Dexpot Support: can you please let me know what to look for in the log? Is the snippet I posted helpful? I don't want to disclose much of my browsing history over email, so I'd prefer not to send a full log.

Can you please reply on this? I sent info in a while ago to help debug, but never heard anything.

I haven't heard anything back for months. Can you confirm this is a known bug, or at least let me know if you are able to replicate? Is a fix in the works? Thank you.

Is this going to get investigated, or replied to?
